Verizon Wireless is celebrating the launch of its new Droid 2 device by launching a special R2-D2 edition to cash in on the popularity of the Star Wars franchise. It will have a large touchscreen and sliding keyboard. This special edition will reportedly have a 1.2 GHz processor, not the 1 GHz chip that's on the regular one. Those who are interested in this Star Wars-themed smartphone should be aware that supplies are limited. Each Verizon store will be getting just 200 units.
Specifications of the Droid 2 include Android 2.2 (Froyo) , 1 GHz Snapdragon processor , 3.7" WVGA Capacitive Multitouch display. This model is able to share its 3G wireless Internet connection with other devices over Wi-Fi, essentially acting as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. This feature costs an additional $20 a month, though. The Motorola Droid 2 has a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, 8 GB of on-board storage as well as an 8 GB microSD/SDHC memory card.
